Allergy Capitals of the US: Where Does Austin Rank?

Austin has a fairly well-deserved reputation as the “Allergy Capital of the US”. Austin tops various studies from time to time–but is nearly always present in any study.

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America is a nonprofit organization founded in 1953 that perform studies and raises awareness on behalf of allergy sufferers. The AAFA issues a study every 2 years in which they denote the worst US cities for allergy sufferers. We are awaiting the 2010 study, which comes in the fall. However, in the 2008 study, Austin didn’t make the top 25–sort of. Our close neighbor to the south, San Antonio ranked 18th among allergy capitals in the US. Greensboro North Carolina, and Greenville South Carolina topped the list.
